Now wait before you think this is all woo woo and self indulgent. It isn’t. It’s Practical.
Here’s the idea. When you take the time and some money and are generous to yourself you end up spreading that generosity to others. When you are a mom with a busy career and oodles of responsibilities pulling you in a million directions it can feel kind of wrong to take some time for yourself. (guilt) It isn’t – it’s a gift to yourself that starts a ripple effect.
If you don’t take the time resentment can build up and well then that fierce, snarky person you are not so proud of can show up at the worst possible times. It happens to all of us and it happens most often when we are give, give, giving to everyone else except ourselves.
So today is all about taking 1 hour: 60 minutes for you.Use that time for whatever you want. Catch up with a friend, talk a walk, get a massage, go to an art gallery.
Whats that moneys tight? That’s ok check out the free passes your local library offers to all sorts of things to do in your area. Lot’s of times you can get the pass on the internet so you don’t have to go to the library – you do need a library card.
Whenever I have had a major bad parenting, partner or friend moment when I reflect about it, it all traces back to simply not being generous enough to myself. I got caught up in fixing or giving or “supposed to’s” and did not take care of myself.
So if you have some trouble getting started doing this for you – do it for your kids and everyone else – today 1 hour being generous to you.
